For over 20 years, Sentry Software has developed proprietary software within a closed ecosystem building a solid expertise in hardware, storage and application monitoring.
Recently, the company decided to open-source its latest project, MetricsHub®, to enhance collaboration, improve product quality, increase adoption, contribute to the ecosystem, and ensure long-term sustainability.
By transitioning to open source, Sentry Software can leverage the collective expertise of a diverse developer community, leading to innovative solutions and more reliable software through peer reviews. This move also builds user trust due to transparency and fosters greater community engagement.
The company implemented the transition by releasing MetricsHub's source code on platforms like GitHub, establishing contribution guidelines, and building a supportive community. This strategic decision not only improves MetricsHub® but also significantly contributes to the open-source ecosystem.

- Semantic Conventions for Hardware Metrics where we defined semantic conventions for hardware metrics
- OpenTelemetry Collector Contrib where we added proper Otel-to-Prometheus conversion for metrics and attributes. Our code even ended up in Prometheus itself!
- Apache Maven Doxia where we improved the rendering of Markdown documents.
- Apache Maven Site Plugin, where we improved the rendering of Markdown documents.
- JSON Schema Store, where we make the JSON-based MetricsHub Configuration available.
